Cologne in films

A big city without a film tradition, but with charming film locations

Our collection combines attractive feature films set in Cologne with documents about history, architecture and music. Cologne is a major city with a long film and cinema tradition, charming locations, many stories. Above all, the cathedral and the Romanesque churches shape the cityscape - as do the new buildings and traffic plans of the 1950s and 1960s. Not to forget carnival and Kölsch beer. The city is home to WDR, RTL and many other television and film companies, but Cologne has not become a "film city" like Berlin or Munich. But there is a lot of filming going on, and apart from the cathedral there are numerous locations that are less typical but still very appealing. Invaluable for the visibility of Cologne's film heritage is the association "Köln im Film", which is dedicated to film and cinema history. On the website koeln-im-film.de there is a lot of information, photos, film clips to watch: 120 years of films from and about Cologne.
