The delicate and dramatic Brazilian issue, which was a taboo in the village for a long time. The documentary film "Bei den Kaffeepflückern in Brasilien" visits together with two local researchers the descendants of Thuringians who were expelled to Brazil in 1852. Some of them still speak German with Thuringian dialect. Their ancestors four to six generations ago were considered outcasts in their German homeland.
The two local historians Dieter Lange and Hans-Günter Schneider from Böhlen in the Thuringian Forest have researched this historical tragedy and its consequences for more than 20 years. This film was shot in 2019 and 2020 in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina and in Thuringia. The premiere was in October 2020 at the Arnstadt Theater. At the end of 2021, the film was shown at the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin.
