In the neighborhood around the train station in Frankfurt, two people meet whose worlds could hardly be more different. Monika is in her mid-40s and, as a curator, is part of the city's art and cultural scene. When she is caught up in a police raid, she meets Joseph, a Congolese businessman who is looking for investors for a diamond mine in Congo and is keeping his head above water with import/export business. Their meeting sparks an intense love story. But while the two believe they can survive against all external odds and prejudices, mutual mistrust creeps into the relationship.... Inspired by her mother's story, Lisa Bierwirth takes a true-to-life and precise look at how postcolonial structures and power relations can be reflected in a European-African relationship. The story tells of the pitfalls, but also the courage, of living a love in the field of tension between social conventions. Between world metropolis and shadow economy, the cultural melting pot of Frankfurt am Main is an ambivalent protagonist of the film.
